Spacerowałam z moim czworonogim przyjacielem nad brzegiem morza. Duży, czarny pies, przypominający niedźwiadka, jak zawsze przyciągał zainteresowanie obcych. Dzieciaki, w różnym wieku, z widoczną radością podszytą lekkim lękiem przed większym od nich zwierzakiem, głaskały jego grube futro. Pies, który kochał uśmiechających się ludzi, szczególnie tych najmłodszych, był niezwykle kontent z tych spotkań.
Po godzinie, lekko już zmęczona, podeszłam nad sam brzeg wody. Pies z zainteresowaniem śledził ciekawskie mewy brodzące po mokrym piasku. Kątem oka zauważyłam zbliżającą się z naprzeciwka w naszą stronę sylwetkę jakiegoś mężczyzny. Wyglądał on na dystyngowanego, bardzo starszego człowieka, dlatego też szybko przytuliłam się do mojego psa. Czasami starsi ludzie boją się większych czworonogów, a ja nie chciałam nikomu zepsuć tego pięknego dnia nad wzburzonym morzem. Parę kroków przede mną mężczyzna stanął i obrzucił dociekliwym spojrzeniem mojego futrzaka. Posłałam w jego stronę jak najbardziej uspokajający uśmiech.
– Niech pani go mocno trzyma.
Nieznajomy zwerbalizował widoczną na jego twarzy obawę.
– Jest na smyczy. Trzymam go mocno. Proszę się nie bać, nic panu nie zrobi, jest kochany i niezwykle życzliwy.
Pies spokojnie siedział przytulony do mojego boku. Nie wykazywał żadnego zainteresowania nieznajomym. Ubrany szykownie, dystyngowany starszy pan posłał mi ironiczny uśmiech.

Wychowano mnie na kulturalną osobę. Gdy wchodzę do windy, mówię „Dzień dobry”. Moja babcia – mama mojej mamy – była cudowną staruszką z mądrą i piękną duszą. Jestem bardzo grzeczna wobec starszych osób, uśmiech, czy miłe słowo nic mnie nie kosztują, a mogą komuś poprawić humor. Czasami jednak nie sposób być sympatycznym. Byłoby to wręcz bluźnierstwem wobec samego siebie i świata, hipokryzją podszytą szczególnym tchórzostwem, które każe splunięcie w twarz nazywać ciepłym deszczem.
– Wie pan, co? Też mam taką jedną zasadę. Uważam, że każdy staruch jest głupi. Jest pan mężczyzną, w widoczny sposób starszym, więc niewątpliwie jest pan staruchem. A więc, drogą dedukcji, mogę stwierdzić, że jest pan głupi.
Uśmiechnęłam się serdecznie do osłupiałego mężczyzny.
– Miłego dnia panu życzę.
Skinęłam uprzejmie głową, po czym poszłam w swoją stronę.
Po paru minutach spotkaliśmy kolejną grupkę roześmianych dzieciaków. Otoczyły nas, zachwycone możliwością pogłaskania małego niedźwiadka. Mój pies był w siódmym niebie. Spojrzałam na horyzont. Słońce chwilowo zyskało przewagę nad chmurami i oczom spacerujących niespiesznie piaszczystym brzegiem ludzi ukazała się przepiękna tęcza.
Jesień nad morzem jest wyjątkowo urokliwa.
