Stanął, podrapał się w chwilowym zagapieniu po swojej wielkiej głowie, po czym stwierdziwszy, że awantura w domu może poczekać, postanowił przyłączyć się do uroczystości. Od drzwi kaplicy dzieliło go już kilkanaście kroków, gdy te otworzyły się na całą szerokość, po czym tłum ludzi, z księdzem na czele, zaczął z nich powolnie wychodzić. Każdy z uczestników procesji trzymał w dłoniach płonącą świecę i cicho, niespiesznie za kapłanem podążał. Stanął więc Józef z boku grzecznie czekając, aż wszyscy z budynku powychodzili. Gdy tak się stało, światła w nim zgasły i tylko pochód ciemność nocy rozświetlał. Po chwili modlący się weszli w bramy pobliskiego cmentarza, zaś Józef podjął swoją własną wędrówkę, do czekającej – niechybnie z wałkiem, albo jeszcze czymś gorszym – połowicy.

– Wróciłem!

Krzyknął w progu własnej chałupy.

– Cicho, durny Ty!

Połowica, kobieta nie ustępująca tężyzną fizyczną swojemu mężowi, siedziała przy kuchennym stole. Józef, widząc, że ta – o dziwo! – nie jest skora do kłótni, sam spuścił z tonu i szybko przygarnął ją do swojej piersi.

– Co tak siedzisz? Tęskniłaś, co?

Usiadł z żoną na kolanach, po czym zaraz zaczął opowiadać o mszy i procesji, którą po drodze spotkał. Żona słuchała bez słowa, od czasu do czasu czyniąc znak krzyża.

– A Ty co taka pobożna, słowa nie można powiedzieć…Diabła widziałaś, czy co?

Wtedy kobieta „oświeciła” Józefa. Takie to było oświecenie mocne, że olbrzym zbladł i ze strachu wielkiego, nie do ogarnięcia rozumem, zaczął się trząść. Do rana żadne z małżonków nie zmrużyło oka.

Tamta noc zaduszkowa na zawsze pozostała w pamięci miejscowych. Józek nigdy późną jesienią nocą po wsi się już nie włóczył. Ucichł, spokorniał, co wyszło mu na zdrowie, bo dożył niemal setki.

 

Do dzisiaj pamiętam te długie wieczory, gdy różni znajomi rodziców opowiadali historie o duchach. Szczególnie bałam się tych, które snuli jesienią, w okolicach Zaduszek. Dzisiaj coraz częściej spotykam się ze zdziwieniem, gdy mówię o szczególności dnia drugiego listopada. Niewielu pamięta jego wielką rangę.

Jeszcze całkiem niedawno wierzono, że w Dzień Zaduszny zmarli mogą odwiedzać swoje domy. Zostawiano dla nich na stole pokarm, uchylano wejściowe drzwi. Noc Zaduszna była szczególna, ponieważ zaświaty opuszczały nie tylko dusze bliskich zmarłych ale i tzw. potępieńcy, którzy mogli zrobić krzywdę żywym. Dlatego w tę noc ludzie starali się nie wychodzić z domów. Wiara w to, że raz w roku otwierają się wrota i z zaświatów wracają dusze zmarłych, była swojego czasu bardzo silna.

Jak jest dzisiaj? Coraz więcej ludzi zapomina o tym, że to Dzień Zaduszny jest świętem zmarłych, że to właśnie tego dnia należałoby symbolicznym płomieniem zapalonym na grobie bliskich ogrzać dusze tych, którzy odeszli . Nikt już nie snuje opowieści o Zaduszkach, czasie szczególnym, gdy – według ludowych wierzeń – świat żywych miesza się ze światem zmarłych. Dzisiaj królują inne strachy. Na przykład ten o zniknięciu fejsbuka, znacie go? Straszny, prawda?😎😀
